NERIM University represents the culmination of more than three decades of dedicated service to higher education in the North-Eastern region of India. Its journey began in 1992 with the establishment of the NERIM Educational Society that was founded with the vision of creating quality professional education opportunities for students of Assam and the wider North-East. Over the years, NERIM has emerged as one of the pioneering self-financing educational institutions in the region and has widely accumulated accolades and distinction for its fineness in Management education and allied disciplines.
Initially established as the North Eastern Regional Institute of Management (NERIM), the Institution gradually expanded its academic reach beyond Management studies into Commerce, Computer Science, Law, Social Science, Psychology, Teacher Education and research-oriented programmes. Through its affiliated colleges under Gauhati University, Dibrugarh University, and Assam Science and Technology University, NERIM has successfully trained thousands of students who have later garnered exposure in diversified areas of professions such as in government services, corporate sectors, academics, entrepreneurship, and social development.
NERIM's long-standing commitment to academic excellence, innovation, student-centric learning, and regional development has eventually paved the way for its transformation into a University. NERIM has long been recognized not only for quality education but also for its strong emphasis on student counselling, mentoring, personality development, and career guidance, all of which have played a significant role in shaping the professional and personal growth of its students.
A detailed report submitted to the Government of Assam highlighted NERIM's strong infrastructure, experienced faculty base, multidisciplinary academic vision, and long-term commitment to research, skill development, and community engagement. The report also underlined the importance of establishing a modern University capable of addressing emerging educational, professional, and employment needs of the North-Eastern region.
Recognizing its long-standing academic contributions and institutional growth, the Government of Assam enacted the North Eastern Regional Institute of Management (NERIM) University Act, 2025, and officially established NERIM University in January 2026 under the Assam Private Universities Act, 2007. Today, NERIM University stands as a symbol of educational progress, aspiring to become a centre of excellence in teaching, research, innovation, and community development for the entire North-Eastern region.
